2019 Update

By eugena On July 28th, 2019

Greetings everyone:

As I recently stated on a public Facebook post:

As you all may see from my profile, thanks to unwanted attention from certain people, I do not post much on social media. In fact, read it from my official blog. I did not post much before, but I certainly do not now.
In a brief return to social media this past week, a pro EXO comment led to a very much unwanted discussion about politics. Even using the disclaimer that my Facebook wall was not a place for politics was not enough to keep my EXO post a drama free zone.
I do not intend to use my social media accounts for discussion of certain subjects such as politics.
As I have often said in person before:
“I get paid to be dramatic, but you – you do it for free!”
(No this isn’t a specific “you” – that is just my quote.)
No drama is necessary on my social media feeds. Nor is it wanted.
Now as EXO is touring with EXO Planet #5, I have to say goodbye a bit more to social media right now. If anyone thinks my social media space is up for grabs to discuss politics, no worry. I am not making any additional space for that now.
I have great love and admiration for EXO and all its members – past and present. I was first a fan of EXO-M, influenced heavily by my fond memories of my Mandarin Chinese Language classmates, where I first discovered a different group, Transition.
I suppose the reasons why people like what they like and who they do can often only be understood by the individual person.
So, one last post for some bit, Keep Calm and Love EXO. Life – no matter how long it may be – is too short for negativity and stress.
Have a prosperous year everyone.
EXO: 谢谢你们的音乐。

I will no longer be updating social media or this blog for now.  Expect only minor updates or downtime for website (technical) updates.

Perhaps sometime I might return again to social media and to updating this blog.

Have a prosperous year everyone.

Updates and Megami Pandora Contests

By eugena On September 24th, 2018

To all my fans and those who are not, I hope you all have been well.

Many of you may be wondering about my silence and lack of updates on my writing or other projects through my websites and social media. It has been rather unfortunate that I have received unwanted attention which had only been made worse by a continued online presence. So, I have stopped that online presence for a while and will continue to do so. I will not respond to many emails, social media comments, etc. I may return to my online presence, but as to when I cannot disclose at this time. This did not begin recently, but as I have received some emails requesting updates, I have finally decided to update you all.

This is my open letter to thank all of my family, friends, and those of you I do not know personally. I have not forgotten about all of you. Thus, I post this as a “Hello for now.”

I am also posting this to give official notice that I am closing the Megami Pandora contests*. The last date for entry is October 25, 2018. Thank you for all your interest. I can understand some of the hesitation to put in a name to someone you may not know personally. There has been one official entry and that first name will appear in a draft of the novel. As to whether or not it stays, this may be up to the publisher. The name used will be based on the name as given to me. So, if this person was – as is common in online communication as many of you know and some practice – using an alias name, you may not see the name appear under the “actual” name. I reserve the right to refuse entry of a name or alias that is offense, nonsense (for example, contains numbers), or shares a name with pre-established major character in Megami Pandora or other writing projects, as well as refusal for other good cause.

I am considering a brief return to social media status for a Go Fund Me or similar campaign for Doe** who has been undergoing long-term medical testing and attempted treatments. I have noticed a lot of success in funds for IVF and similar but am not sure in the success rate for other needs. (IVF is not the subject for Doe.) Perhaps some of you might have some thoughts on that. I am willing to read your comments or emails on this subject.

I appreciate all of your heartfelt words of support, well-wishes, good vibes, prayers, etc. Please do not expect any updates on any personal life details. I have never said much of my personal life online status will not say anything now. Thanks to my experience with my online presence, expect an absolute silence on the personal details now. If any of you are curious, I am pointing to family and private relationships and status. I am adding a PSA here to say in my opinion no one should post information about their minor (not adult) children, grandchildren, etc., online. Ever. If this applies to me (again, I am not saying either way), it is something I will not do. Anyone who thinks it would be appropriate to post online that kind of information about me or those related to me can expect that I will demand this information to be removed. Those of you who are my friends on Facebook may notice a slight disclosure here and there on my personal life details (PSA still in place), but they are very slim.

To all of my supporters, it has been fun sharing my journey with you. Perhaps we will “speak” again some day.

With my sincere gratitude.

Eugena Moulton

Writing Updates

By eugena On March 2nd, 2016

Hello out there readers.  I’ve taken an extended hiatus to updating my writing progress outside of facebook due to many other pressing matters.  As some of you may know, I don’t speak much on personal plans over the Internet.

This year I entered the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 50th Anniversary writing contest.  My story focused on The Original Series, post the movies dealing with the “death” of Kirk.  Yes, as any of you fans know, that death was not straightforward.  (*Spoilers*)  I will be awaiting the results of the contest, which should be out at the end of this month.  The publication should be out later this year.

I’m excited for my intended future for The Age of Merrik series.  Book 2, Rise of the New Masters, is already over 64,000 words, necessitating it being split in half.  Yet no worries about an annoying cliffhanger.  I don’t believe in just stopping at a chapter, cutting it off mid-story.  There is an “ending” for this book, though it will move right along into Book 3, Title TBA.  I wrote the ending for what is now Book 3 first and have written the ending for Rise of the New Masters and am writing along towards that ending. There are quite a few plot twists coming up, some showing up in this book, some in the next.

I’ve also worked quite a bit on the plot and direction of my title TBA (working title “Phoenix”) fantasy novel over the Nanowrimo 2015.

I’ll be working mostly on my Age of Merrik novel for a while, occasionally working on my others.  I look forward to finishing the first complete draft of Rise of the New Masters.

Merry December 2014

By eugena On December 16th, 2014

Hi everyone.  I hope you all are having a fun-filled and safe holiday season.  Last month was National Novel Writing Month, and I didn’t get my goal of 50,000 words, but I did get over half.  I’m pleased to say that The Age of Merrik: The Anointing sequel, Rise of the New Masters, should be finished by the end of the year.  Then I anticipate some time for edits and later publication.  Considering the large amount of material I have already written for it, I will be breaking my draft of Rise of the New Masters into Rise of the New Masters and (I don’t feel like sharing the title quite yet, SPOILERS) book number 3.

I look forward to a prosperous 2015, filled with (among other great things) more books.  Merrik Moulton and I would like to wish you and yours a very Merry, fun, and safe holiday season.

Happy Holidays 2014

Happy October!

By eugena On October 23rd, 2014

*Waves* Hello out there, readers, it’s been a long time.  Well, when you’re an attorney, there is just so much to do.  I’ve still been working on my books, but I didn’t really feel the need to keep posting that here.

So, I’ve finally reached the ending of Megami Pandora.  Yay.  Cheers.  干杯!  I have to fill in all the lovely scenes between the beginning and end that I haven’t finished yet, but it’s thrilling to work on an action-packed scifi novel like this one.  In a sense, I really have two different places to end – one biggie cliffhanger and one traditional place to end.  I’m liking the cliffhanger more and more.  But don’t worry, If I stop there, the rest will be pushed to the front of Megami #2.

So, in The Age of Merrik, Rise of the New Masters and Dark Desires, I’m struggling with just how much I want to make a current “good guy” into a “bad guy.”  Yes, it’s actually a surprise for you audience on what happens, but is this character so irredeemable that everyone wants to off him?  I guess you’ll find out.  But you would actually have to tell me.  That’s the beauty of writing.  I have an opinion, I write the story, yet always ask the audience.  They may take it completely different.  Take the Brianna vs. Liana debate.  I could care less that someone betrayed their boyfriend.  Yet when asked who they despised more, Brianna or Liana, all the females I asked thought Briana was the worse of the two.  I’m disagreeing with the XX genes out there and saying it’s far worse to betray your entire nation like Liana did.

Have fun out there readers and pursue what you love to do in life.

Announcing My Tumblr Website

By eugena On June 8th, 2014

E. Moulton on Tumblr

Ok everyone, I’m giving this tumblr a try.  This blog will have my up to date news on my writing projects, but if you’d like to also view my thoughts on other things, like shows, movies, and games, visit my tumblr page.  I will also have some things here and there about my writing projects as well.

Excerpt from my first tumblr post, “Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior:”

So among the so many other things I did this weekend, I worked a bit on Shinigami,  Knowing how the main character is at “Act 1” and will be at “Act 3” (more of screenwriting terms here than prose writing), I believe it’s important to keep showing her as being true to herself.  I think sometimes it takes genuine courage to do that.  And it will for Shirayukihime.  Just as it will for Eleya in Rise of the New Masters when she faces a truth she would rather forget.  Although important in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, this idea is not really from that series.  I think it is a strong idea present in many works.  The idea of being true to yourself is among the best things you can commit to.  After all, who wants to be lying to yourself?  Of course, in great contrast, I do have characters that are.  Brianna, for example.

I think that by writing scenes with that focus for the characters that adhere to that philosophy really fleshes them out, first of all for me, then also for the audience.  I’m looking forward to writing the hard scene is Rise of the New Masters, where Eleya and a few minor characters will be dealing with something that really puts what they believe in, including themselves, to the test.  And in Shinigami, Shirayukihime must realize her error and choose to deal with the avalanche that is its aftermath.

Once a Warrior, Always a Warror, and these characters won’t be backing down.

Side Perspective

By eugena On May 7th, 2014

Hi Everyone

I hope you all have been doing well.  It’s been quite a while since my last update.  I am still working on the novels.  It seems like ROTNM is right now in the highest demand of them.  I’ve been working on flushing out that side character, Talissa.  Why?  Well, yes, a side character really is not that important until she is given importance.  And, yes, this one has a surprising role.  As some of you might recall, I have already outed this character as a traitor.  Well, perhaps she is a tricky one.  After all, who did she betray?  Well, yet another traitor.  So, overall, she was still loyal to her top master, just not to her immediate lord.  That’s a very broad overview, however.  It gets pretty complicated when you ask her to go against the vile King Malik and his even more so disgusting General Number Two.  Actually Malik is like a shining knight compared to that guy.  Zsastar, as bad as some of you might see him, can’t hold a candle to General Valoren of Sethane.

And for those of you reading into close detail, Valoren did I say?  Yes.  Same spelling.  Different person.  For readers of The Anointing, you may recall Brianna’s two loyalists, Jonas, who becomes an important character in Rise of the New Masters, and Valoren, who seemed to be more mature than Jonas, but not too much said about him.  There is something to say about his family, however.  They named him after General Valoren.  And, oh dear, Merrik, had you known the names of King Malik’s Generals, this name alone should have tipped you off to something.  But that’s a reflection of real life there.  Even the most learned persons can be ignorant or simply non-observant to something that seems so glaring obvious and important.

The books is progressing well with this new Talissa-centric perspective.

Recap on what I have posted on Malik’s Generals’ identities:

General 1: The only female General.  She has a personal stake in Zsastar’s well-being.  At great odds with General Valoren.  This begs the question of why haven’t the two of them killed each other yet.  Which is certainly asked and addressed several times.

General 2: Valoren (of Sethane), biological father of Nathan

General 3

General 4: Zsastar, Son of Malik

General 5

General 6

General 7: Nathan (in disguise)

Reflections of Us

By eugena On December 18th, 2013

Hello out there Readers.  I hope you all are enjoying the holiday season.

I recently took the “NAMOWRIMO” month as an encouragement to work on some more writing.  Right now, I am focusing on Character Motivations.  In Shinigami, I explore Shirayukihime’s conflicted desire for self vs. what is best for her people as a whole.  I worked on one of the act “climax” scenes, for those of you out there familiar with the term (though it’s more so in the screenwriting context).  It’s certainly different to look at the before and after.  Before, she’s considering the changes in “life” (she’s a God of Death, Shinigami, is she living?) and ready to take on some desires, even if they are forbidden.  Then here at the climax for Act 1 (though I may move it along to Act 2), there is the after, or at least the begining of it.  She takes what a lot of real life people don’t, responsibility, for her actions, including things derived from those actions.  She makes what many would consider a bad choice, but chooses what she finds as a repentance and perhaps the only path of restoration left to her.  (Really sorry, don’t want to spoil it, but would you out there really read the first part if you knew this big event?  Maybe so.)

And as to The Age of Merrik, as some of you may be familiar, I am working on the sequel, Rise of the New Masters.  Lately, I’m taking the focus on Zsastar, Son of Malik.  ***SPOILER ALERT****

**SPOILER.  TURN AWAY IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW.**

So, he’s finding himself falling in love with Eleya.  Though according to the vicious First General, who has a personal stake in Zsastar’s well-being, he’s already fallen for her.  His father, King Malik, fell in love with the Sword Master and Seer Skye.  This of course caused all sorts of problems.  The long-standing feud between Ancient Sethane and the Sword Masters was temporarily broken, but only for her.  Furthermore, Malik gets revenge on the Sword Master Zaelen, father of Zaedrif and Zibiah, for betraying Skye.

So, can Zsastar do it?  Can he look past the feud like his father did?  Will he feel too guilty because, like his father, he believed that all Sword Masters are to share in the blame for Skye’s betrayal and, what is arguably, her state of death?

*SPOILER ENDS HERE*

So, what’s my recommended song for this week?  I’d have to say “Let It Go” from the new Disney Frozen movie.  I’m not much of a fan of animation in contract to a live action film, particularly of the action genre, but this was a great movie.  It had actors in it that could actually sing, not ones that did the voice and another for the songs.  It’s not as good as a musical on broadway, but it’s really aimed for kids anyway.  It’s Disney, but at least it’s not “You gotta go get married, because that’s all little girls want,” like the much earlier movies.  Disney Pixar’s Brave focused on the Mother-Daughter bond, and this one focused on a bond between Sisters.  I love singing talent, and to see it in a movie makes the story even better.  Excellent casting.  I would also recommend the music video of “Let It Go.”

And speaking of music videos, check out “What Does the Fox Say?”.  Hilarious.  I also recommend Transition’sSorry My Chinese Isn’t So Good.”

Second Life

By eugena On September 27th, 2013

Hi Everyone out there, a belated Happy Merrik Anniversary!  Of course, as you detailed-orientated fans know, this is the V1 Anniversary, pre-Sword Masters era of V2 and V3 (Final) of the book.  It’s still Novem, so I think we can celebrate all month long on this one.

I can hardly believe that some of the biggest planning in Rise of the New Masters revolved around the Anointing protagonist Zsastar.  Let’s just say at this point, defeat has changed him.  Is he willing to lead a new life and pay the price for it?  And who exactly are the real allies to whom?

Following Zsastar’s defeat, on the antagonist side, readers will meet the First General, King Malik’s only female general.  And she is not to be trifled with.  Through her dark magic, one hero is lost and other held captive.  Yet perhaps the greater question is how to undo the binding restrictions on the leader of the Sword Masters and give Merrik’s lost people a chance to return home.

As much as I love to write in the dramatic fight scenes, I also enjoy writing the relationships between the characters.  I am rather fond of the dynamic of one character with his or her undying devotion to the other character.  In The Rise of the New Masters, this gets explored in several sets, including Talissa and The Regina as to the past.  In Shinigami, this is the Shinigami and her dragon during the Second Life.  Spoilers end here.  Hope to do some more work over the weekend.  Back to writing about my favorite God of Death.
